Why learn chess from me?
Only starting at age 18 (very late for good chess players), sometime in 2020, I reached an elite chess.com rating of 2100 Bullet in 443 days.
Then, in January 2026, I won the Golden State Open u/2100 section— the largest annual adult bay area tournament. Before the competition, I had not played chess for about 6 months and had no expectation of winning. The tournament was coincidentally held across the street from a gym I go to, so I decided to play for fun. Poised, not caring about the result, I won every game back to back until I offered a draw last game after playing 1 move to secure 1st place! I was rated 1800 USCF at the time and had never done so well in any past competition.
As of 8/20/26, my chess.com peak blitz rating is 2570!
Hence, I offer relatively modern insights to chess improvement and competition, compared to my colleagues who learned chess way before 2020.
Beyond chess, I am an overall self-study specialist, achieving top percentile across different technical skills, such as: Classical Piano (10+ years), Rock Climbing (2+ years, v7), Geoguessr— a game which you have to figure out where you are based on one Google Maps image (Top 1000 Dec, 2024). These 3 skills alone already speak for themselves.
My learning insights come from different learning processes and mindsets mastering different skills.
My learning philosophy is heavily inspired by Zen.
Why don’t you go for a master title?
Classical chess is fun, but it’s too time-consuming and serious for my current purposes in life. I ultimately play chess for the love of the game! —and for me, that’s online chess and OTB casual games. I do not take chess that seriously, but that does not mean I’m no good at chess. Why do I need personal tutoring?
Tutoring is not a requirement for success in chess. I had no mentor. You can absolutely learn and reach beyond Elite entirely for free, which I did. Hit me up if you need help.
